nYou can write notes about Macbeth and its accompanying materials in two ways: either right on the page via “black line notes,” or in the floating “Macbeth Notepad.”• Creating and using black line notes. Black line notes look like vertical black lines that appear to the left of the text; when you click on a black line, a text window opens up in which you can take notes. Black line notes can be attached to the text of the play, the commentaries, the essays, the film clip scripts, the collation, and the suggested readings. You can draw black line notes to the left of the main text on most pages; on pages with two columns of text, you draw black line notes to the left of either column; in the play text, you draw black line notes in the line number area. To create a black line note, move the cursor to the immediate left of the text, click and hold the mouse button down so the cursor turns into a small black marking pen and immediately drag the mouse up or down to draw a line. When you release the mouse, a blank text window appears beside the black line – this window holds the note that is attached to the black line. Click in the note window to type your note. You can use the standard Macintosh editing commands to copy, move, and delete text. Each text window scrolls to accommodate a maximum of approximately 5000 words (30,000 characters). Click in the Close box to hide the text window, leaving the black line on the page as a marker. Note: you can create as many as four notes per page in the play and Clips Gallery sections; six notes per page can be drawn in most other sections of the Voyager Macbeth.To remove a black line and its note, hold the mouse down on the line and drag it to the right or left. If the note contains any text, a dialog box will ask you if you want to delete the note (click “OK” to confirm the deletion); if the note is empty, the black line will immediately disappear when you release the mouse. To see and edit a black line note, click on the black line. The note window will open up. You can move the window around, resize it, and edit the text in it. When you close the window, the note is saved, along with the window’s shape and position. To locate, export, and print black line notes, hold the mouse button down in the area to the left of the text for more than a second without moving the mouse; you will see a pop-up menu with the following choices:— Pages with notes. Choose this item to see a pop-up  menu displaying a list of all pages with black line  markings; choose a page number to go to there.— Next page with notes and Previous page with notes.  Choose one of these items to go to the next (or  previous) page that has one or more black line notes.  Next and Previous wrap around: for example, if you  are on the last page that has a black line note, choosing  “Next Page with notes” will take you to the first page  that has a black line note. — Export marked passages and notes. Choose this item  to save your marked passages and their accompanying  notes to a separate text file. A dialog box will ask you to  name the file and choose where to put it.— Print marked passages and notes. Choose this item to  print your marked passages and their accompanying  notes.• Using the Macbeth Notepad. Choose Notepad from the Macbeth Menu (-N) or the Tools palette to open it. When you open the Notepad, it opens to the last note you were working on. To create a new note page, click the New button at the bottom left of the notepad, and enter a title for the note in the resulting dialog box.To enter text in a note, click anywhere in the note area inside the Notepad, then type in the text you want. You can use the standard Macintosh editing commands to copy, move, and delete text. You can print the note you are viewing by clicking the Print button at the bottom of the notepad. You can export the note you are viewing to a text file by clicking the Export button at the bottom of the notepad.To move between notes, click on the right and left arrows at the bottom of the notepad. You can also click and hold down the mouse button on the title of any of the note pages to get a pull-down list of all the note pages in the Notepad. To search for text in your notes, click the Find button at the bottom of the notepad.To delete a note, click the Delete button at the bottom of the notepad when the note you want to delete is visible. You cannot delete all the note pages; one must always be available (you can, however, delete all the text in that last note with normal text editing commands).To collapse the Notepad, click in the zoom box in the upper-right corner of the Notepad’s title bar. The Notepad will shrink to just the title bar. You can expand the Notepad by clicking the zoom box a second time.To put the Notepad away, click the close box in the upper-left corner of the Notepad’s title bar, type -N, or click the Notepad button on the Tools palette.ePalex
